Tryin to make my 350 sound great.

I got a 350 sbc in my 67 camaro. i got long headers and flowmaster 2 chambers. but its not as throaty as i would like it to be. im installing a new cam. but also i heard if i throw on a H- Pipe it would make it sound a little depper and throatier as well. Anyone know anything about this?

IMO, since you've already got headers and Flowmasters, if you put a "lumpier" cam in, you should notice quite a difference. My '81 Z28 sounded quite a bit different with the 383 vs the original 350 when I did the swap, even though the exhaust system stayed the same. The cam I had wasn't even that wild, but to me it sounded really sweet.......................way better than my friend's Chevelle with a stock 350 and headers/dual exhaust setup --- his exhaust sounded too "tinny", not "throaty" like mine. Try a cam..........if you're not happy, then you can look into other options. I'm not really sure if an H-pipe or X-pipe will help the sound that much..........I think they just balance out the flow a little more.

Ya, the good sound only comes from compression and lots of it . I get plenty of compliments on mine... good compression, lumpy cam, and "custom" single chamber flowmasters (they were 3 chambers till I had a few MASSIVE backfires... now the guts are gone ). the exhaust turns lots of heads.... sounds just wicked.

I agree with this 100%.

Do the cam and then see what the car sounds like.

If you still want more....redo the whole exhaust system with larger pipes and that X-pipe. (EX...go from 2.25" to 2.5" pipes)

Enjoy.

Unhappy

My car is broken Talos Dunno if its gonna make it to the next one. At best its my brand new $400 clutch, at worse my freshly rebuilt tranny is toast. and I have no $$ at all to spend on it now. Gonna try to make it though.
