Is this a true SS
Is this a true SS
I am looking into purchasing what is supposed to be an original 396-375, 1969 Camaro. The VIN is 124379N653767 and the Trim Tag is as folllows:
ST69 12437
NOR 351405 BDY
TR 711
72 72 PNT
06A
X22 D80
I know that this stuff is correct, but the car has been repainted and the original engine is gone. Is there any other tips you guys know of to be sure? TIA

Decode for body number: 351405
06A = Built the First week of June.
69-12437 = Coupe.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
711 = Standard Black Bucket Seats.
72-72 = Car Color is Hugger Orange
X22 = SS396 with style trim
D80 = Spoiler equipment
The X22 code says, yes it is a real SS.
However to be sure, I'd run this by Daniel at CRG. Trim tags can always be faked.

The X22 means it is an SS396 and the D80 means it came with spoiler equipment. If you check the car closely, look to see if there is 1 or 2 fuel lines going to the tank. The 396/375 cars had 1 fuel line with a Holley carb, the 396/325 and 396/350 engines had a fuel return line so there are 2 lines going to the tank. The VIN and trim tag align pretty close date wise, but you might want to post over at www.camaros.net or www.camaros.org to get some more opinions. Get some pictures of the car and trim tag to help verify it. What's the asking price on the car?
