Tremec 5 Speed

Hi, i was wondering if a Tremec 5 Speed would work in a 71 camaro with a carbed engine. I have never tried mixing new and old stuff together so im not sure. If it does, would I need any other things besides the normal parts for an auto to standard conversion? (I have a TH-350 in there now, and a 350 for the engine). I was originally just going to find a good muncie 4-speed but I found a good deal on a Tremec out of a 99' Cobra. Thanks for the help. Technology owns me.

I'm having a Tremec TKO-500 installed in my kid's blue 67 SS clone as we speak. The guy doing the install for me recently installed one in a 70 Chevelle behind a GM 502 crate motor. Mine was purchased as a complete kit including new cross member, driveshaft, bell housing, clutch, shifterm etc. There are several places that sell kits out there, including ones to convert automatics to 5 speeds. Here's a great place to start... http://www.5speedtransmissions.com

Not to jack your thread but does anyone know if the t5 will bolt up to a pontiac 400 or is the bolt pattern different?

T5 would grenade shortly after being put behind a Pontiac 400. T5s were only ever rated at 300 ft lbs.

The Tremec TKO would survive nicely. I'm pretty sure it'll work, too. You'll just need a BOP bellhousing, instead of a Chevy style.

Does your tremec have a removable bellhousing? (I heard that it didnt but dont quote me on that) If not, it wont bolt up since its for the mustang modular v8. If that is out of a 99 cobra, its a T-45. Not as good as a TKO if your going to be putting out alot of power.
