Question Help with wiring up MSD 6al box

I'm installing a MSD 6AL into my buddy's 79 Camaro. Got most of it wired according to the instructions but I'm confused on one wire. The thin red wire from the msd box should be connected to the "heavy red or pink wire key connector from car's wiring harness". Where do I find this connector at? I found a pink wire with a female connector plugged into the fuse panel under the dash labeled "IGN" (ignition?). I pulled it and pluged the msd wire into female connector, and nothing was plugged in the IGN socket on the panel. The engine wont start. So is that the correct connection or is there something else I should be looking at?

The thin red wire needs a "key on" power source; needs 12 volts when the key is on and when cranking, but no volts with the key off. Either go directly to the fuse box at the ign spade terminal or accessory (but needs to be checked for power during cranking, some do some don't).

I understand the purpuse of the red wire but how exactly should it be connected? Will the car run without anything connected to the IGN terminal on the fuse panel? Meaning, is the MSD meant to bypass that teminal?

No, if you hook the red wire to the wire that was connected to the ign terminal, you have dis-connected the power to both. They both need to be hooked up to that terminal by splicing, 2 to 1 jumper wire, etc. The terminal on the fuse box is the source of power, not the wire plugged into it.

Re: Help with wiring up MSD 6al box

I got it working today and we took it to the track for the first time and my bud's best run was a 13.0 @ 104mph. Were gonna put in a new holley blue fuel pump and regulator, get it all dyno tuned and hopefully be running low 12s. Not to mention the wiring in the car is hacked to shat. The goal is 11s, I'm sure the motor is quite capable of it, but were taking steps one at a time.
