trans question again
trans question again
Well i am still trying to figure out what to do with my car. If i was to put a t5 five speed tranny in the car does anyone know where i can get a hydraulic clutch conversion kit? It's a 67 camaro ss. I have read that the t5 and the Muncie are the same sizes so shouldn't a t5 bolt up to the cross member since my car came with a muncie?? If anyone has any ideas that could help me out on what to do i would sure appreciate it. Im ready to get my car on the road!!!
-thanks-

Hey there. I just went through this researching a T56 upgrade into my '67. This place sells a whole T56 upgrade kit, but they have a hydraulic assembly:

You can probably purchase the hydraulic setup separate. Why bother with a T5 though? Go full on T56 and run an insane gear ratio in the back!

I was researching the swap as well and what looked like the best one to do was the Tremec TKO 5 speed. I think it can be setup with either the hydraulic clutch or the normal clutch. The TKO will allow you to keep the shifter in the stock location, it has an overdrive and it can handle some decent amount of power. You can put in a brand new TKO for about the same amount of money it would cost to put in a used T56. And 6th gear is pretty much worthless on the cars unless you do nothing but highway driving. There's a couple of web sites that do a comparison between the 2 transmissions. Either way, you will need a new trans crossmember and shortened driveshaft.
