Thinking Of Building A 1970 SS 396

I want to do this for my fathers 50th b-day. I have financial suport from my family, but I have had issues trying to see all of the exact details of the vehicle.

Does anybody know where I might be able to find details of this vehicle. It is mostly interior that I am struggling on. I build engines for a living, so that s no issue for me and the rest of the mechanical aspects are simple. Body work and interior will be the hardest parts for me.

Does anyone have any leads for me that may be helpful.

Thanks In Advance

have you checked nastyz28.com?
that is one of the best 2nd gen sites i've ever seen
i think they've even got restoration articles and everything else you would need, plus a message board
good luck, sounds like a it'll be a nice car
be sure to get us some pics when you're done

That site had some pretty good info for sure.

Thanks for the heads up everybody.

This has been a hard car to locate in restorable condition. Couldn't he of had a simple car like a 67 or 69 Camaro

There's a supposed SS396/375 car that's for sale on the traderonline.com site. I doubt it's a real 375hp car for the price. Are you looking for a real SS396 or to buy a 1970 and build it into an SS396? The trim tag on the 70 cars showed the SS350, SS396/350hp and SS396/375hp options.

I'm looking to build a clone version of the SS 396/375hp. My father owned an original in Cortez Silver, but that was back in 72 or so.

An original would be sweet but clearly out of our price area.

I'm actually looking to do a SS Camaro.

Does anyone have the specs on the L78 engine. I am curious what bore/stroke that engine was.

The L78 is or was the 375 Hp 396.. Bore and stroke consisted of 4.096" bore with a 3.76" stroke. 11.25 to 1 comp, steel crank, solid lift.
