TH350 temp gauge sending unit, where?

I am helping my dad install a trans temp guage, but we don't know where to put the sending unit. Is there an easy place for this? It is a TH350.

In the pan, or else in the fluid OUT line. Some say in the retuen line, but then its already cooled down.

You running an external cooler as well ?

Yeah, we were thinking on the out line, but is there some type of common fitting to make this work? And yes, there is a tranny cooler hooked up also..

BTW, this is on a 1973 RS LT Camaro.

Nice car

Actually, depending on the actual sending unit, you can plumb up some stuff after visiting the local brass fitting section of Home Depot or Lowes.....worst case you just put it in the tranny pan if its deep enough.

If it were me I would just get a pipe-thread T and plumb it into the outlet port for the cooler. Saves you from welding or fighting with leaks (also would only take a minute to install)

Thanks for all of the comments guys. I was looking at the new pan that my dad had bought because I was kind of bummed about welding on it and ruining the chrome. As I stared at the drain plug, it hit me. Why not just ditch the plug and put the sending unit in there? Just pop it out when it's time for a fluid change, and no ruined chrome!! I found a brass adapter that will work too...
