Stout Auto Trans

Hey y'all, where can I get a stout automatic? I've considered TH350 and 400, but I worry the 350 won't be strong enough and the 400 will rob a lot of power. I know a 4l80e would be totally sweet with the electronic controls, and would laugh @ any power I could throw at it...but there too, should I be worried about the amount of power it will rob? I don't trust 700s, I've broken one myself and have seen several go out. My 383 motor might put out between 420-450hp then I'll probably want to squeeze another 100 or so. 600hp will probably be the max I will see, are there any trannies on the market that would work for me ya think, or should I select one of the above and have it built?

Kenny

I have a 78 camaro with a nitroused big block and I have used a B&M th 350 for years .. never had any problems and I just got my engine back last fall from the dyno and it had 830 HP and I plan on switching to a 500 HP fogger to lower my hood (the plate's too high) I wouldent trust a 700 series trans or even a 4l80e as there just too touchy with the electronics and computer and working in a dealership I have seen them fail in stock vehicles so they havent proven there worth to me ... and the 400 is a great trans but for me it was a matter of better torque transmission through the gears and the 350 has better gears for the combo im running .. Im not using anything special no trans brake or stutter boxes just good rebuild parts and converter and a strong but not harsh kit ... also any trans will use SOME HP but probably NOT as much as you might think and in MOST applications it wont make enough of a difference to notice mabye 1-2 tenths diff in a quarter between the 400 and 350 . just match the application to what you have and you should be OK .
