Stock block limits?

My friend is planning a build on a mid 70's 4bolt 350 block. His goal is about 450fwhp then spray the ***** out of it. We are unsure of just how much the block wil like though. Anyone know at about what level factory blocks start to come apart?

At the N/A 450 HP, he is probably ok. Add the N20 and he is on his own - depending upon how much nitrous he uses, it probably will not last long.

What is the rotating assembly that will be used? I would think that they would go before the block would, especially if it is a 4 bolt main.

He should be fine. I'm running a '71 4-bolt block with stock caps and stock forged crank. Based on my ET and speed it's putting 580+HP to the tires. This motor was originally built in '98 and it's still going strong.

He will need a good rotating assembly and studs on the mains.

Oh yeah man he will be fine. A stock Chevy block is good to 850 hp before danger . Right about now he should be feeling fortunate he isnt a Ford guy, the 302s split in half at 500 hp

Reminds me of one of my favorite Ford quotes by my old boss.

"One good thing about a Ford, the engines never make enough power to really hurt themselves if they blow"
