Split Bumpers
No, the Z28 did not get the split bumper, the RS (rally sport) option gave you the split bumpers from 70-73. A lot of people try to add them to non-RS cars because it looks good, but they aren't correct. Go to www.nastyz28.com to see some pictures of what a real RS front end looks like. The parking lights are different and there are different grills and backets for the front end.
You can check out my dad's '73 Camaro in my sig...........it was originally an L-Type ("luxury" type
) but we've basically built it as a Z/28. It has the solid bumper, and hence the signal lights that are underneath the bumper, but I've seen cars like my dad's with the split bumper and it still looks OK, but like Jeff said, it's not the "proper" way.

They also had a "rubberized" painted front nose extension.
I was always getting people asking why my 70 SS didn't have the split bumpers. I'd tell them because it was an SS not an RS. There is a guy on cardomain.com w/a nice early 2nd gen Z28 that he put the bumperettes and some SS badges and now claims it has been converted to SS. I wish people would learn what was what before they claim it.
Just a quick FYI. The RS front is heavier than the normal i piece bumper front. This is due to the extra support brackets. So if your car is a drag racer. The front end isn't where you want extra weight to be.

I personally don't like the way it looks when someone installs RS bumpers on a standard front end Camaro. Ends up looking like a Vega.
This is interesting information. I was unter the impression that I had an LT Camaro, but wasn't sure. From what you guys have described it's actually an RS.
It's a '73 with the 'high' rear spoiler, the split bumper, the round turn signals and the rubber nose.
I guess that's a good thing?

The round signal lights say RS. (The split bumber usually means RS, but many people installed them after...)
The LT option was mostly interior... deluxe seats, wood grain dash and door treatments, gauges on the dash (not lights)
Here is some great info on the '73's

to clarify,
the RS option could be had in conjunction with the SS option ( like mine) or with a Z28 or just a plane sport coupe could be ordered with the ralley sport option.
when you combined it with an SS or Z28 the RS badging is not used.
