I used to have some trac bars on my old 77 ta but they seemed to make the ride very harsh...has anyone tried or is running the south side machine lift bars..
they look a bit different in design..and mgiht not change the ride quality much??

I used the SSM bars once. They aren't for going around corners, that's for sure! Ride was moderately harsh. THey use some very small, hard bushings in them.

If you're referring to the CE Slide-a-link bars, I haven't used them so I have no comparison to give.

I've also used "slapper" bars a few times. They ride pretty good if you buy a good quality bar and adjust the snubber height correctly.

I have the CR bars that attach with J bolts. There is virtyally no difference in ride (that I can tell). They make my car hook real well as I have gotten 1.88 60' times with BFG Radial TA's (the cheap ones)

I don't have traction devices on my 79. I have some heavy duty shocks on the rear (look like a coilover). My 60 ft times are low to mid 1.7s using et streets and high 1.7s with my sportsman pros. I am still using the original springs and have no problems hooking up or having wheel hop.

Calvert Racing Cal-Tracs these are the ones all the really fast stock suspension cars are using. There are some who run low 9 with 1.30 60'.

There are a couple in the high 8s now. I have them on my 68 and love them.

You're right I just read about a few going 8's on drag radials and Cal-tracs, I like them way better than the wannbe Slide-a-links.

I have the SSM bars now, the J-Bolt CE's and Cal Tracs that will be going on this summer.

The Cal Tracs look very nice.

I am thinking about selling the SSM and CE's, not sure what to ask for them just yet.

SSM's hook real well, but give a hard ride, which i really like.
the CE's depending on snubber adjustment are the same as the SSM in ride quality, again depending on snubber adjustment.

i'll give feedback on the Cal's later.

So what is ride like on the street with the cal tracs..my car isn't just a track car..
anyone else find the j bolt ce to ride ok on the street and anyone running the slidelink so can have some opinions on that..those caltracks are so darn pricey..

The ride with the Calt Tracs is not bad at all. With the Cal Tracs adjusted off the spring it's not a real noticeable difference in the ride, but if you adjust the Cal Tracs and apply the pressure to the spring so you can hook, then it will become a harder ride. It is very easy to make this adjust ment using a couple of wrenches and you won't even need a jack either.

Thanks Ahotrod 79...think i am leaning to those now..unless hear great things about slidealink setup..its about same price as caltracs..What 60fts have you got with the caltracs..with what shocks and what tires..and assume stock rear leafs..?? do you think the caltrac will work with composite leaf springs..???? might have to email caltrac and ask them.still waiting for hyperco to get back to me with quote on composite rear leafs..

Haven't gotten to take the car to the track yet because I am putting a cage in it, but I will be running 28 x 10.5 ET streets on stock type springs. I replaced my mutli leaf springs with some parabolic mono leafs from Landrum. Not sure about the composite, but best way to know would be to contact Calevrt Racing (Cal Trac) directly.

Cal-tracs are the way to go... I use them on my 67 and they just totally kick serious ****.
