So my choke wasn't hooked up...
So my choke wasn't hooked up...
My car used to run a little rich, and I just noticed my electric choke wasn't set up properly. (the coil wasn't lined up proplery and the choke was always "open").
Now that I fixed it... the car just floods from the start
The carb I'm using is an Edelbrock 750 performer, electric choke. Any ideas?

Re: So my choke wasn't hooked up...
maybe this is just a shot in the blue, but was the carb box tune? or was it tuned well the Choke wasn't working. Therefore it needing to be retuned to compisate(sp?) for the choke now working?

I got no idea what to do
Re: So my choke wasn't hooked up...
To start with the carb is adjusted with the engine at operating temps. So the coke would be fully open. If the idle mixture screws have no effect on the idle it is usually an indictation of other problems. Like vacuum leaks, etc.
I know this is sacrilege but you may want to buy a BOOK on tuning these carbs.

Actually my local speed shop has photocopies of the Edelbrock tuning manual. Turned out my step up springs were too weak for the amount of vacuum I was running...
Causeing a rich condition.
Fixed that, now onto other things...
If anyone finds this in the archives, here are a few useful sites

Re: So my choke wasn't hooked up...
Qjets use the same arrangement, except they are called power piston springs. I ran a qjet on a 442 once just for grins. I did the low buck tune on the spring by clipping 1/2 turns on the spring till piston stayed down at idle w/low vacuum that came courtesy of a W31 cam I installed.
