shocks to get for street /racing..??

I have seen some adjustable shocks from competition engineering but they say on some sites not for street use.I use my car mostly on street but it will see some track time..what is wrong with these ce shocks that they don't or shouldn't be used on the street.
Also do kyb make their agx shocks for the 70 to 81 camaro/firebirds.. or does Hal make shocks for these years..can only find listings for 82 an newer for these companies..I have kyb on my 99 ws6 and they are decent and easy to set..I would think kyb and hal would make shocks for second gen cars since there are so many out there..

Define what you're trying to do. Do you need adjustable shocks?

If you're going to drive this car on the street, get quality gas shocks. They work fine.

If you're having handling problems, identify what the problem is and everyone can determine why the car acts that way, and can solve the problem.

Adjustable shocks are helpful in tuning the way your car will hook up on a dragstrip. If you show up at the strip and the track condition is poor you can adjust the shocks to compensate. If the track is good, you can adjust the shock for that situation.

The "drag shocks" are not recommended for the street because they're weak to allow for weight transfer. If you're making an evasive move on the street and the front end of your car gets light you can accidentally slam into something if you're not paying attention. You can drive with them IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE AND HOW YOUR CAR REACTS. And if you're careful. They're not ideal for daily use.

Road racing shocks are something totally different.

If you're talking about the 90/10 adjustables don't run them on the street. They lift up fast and settle down slow. This isn't an optimal set up for bumps etc.

If you want to autocross or road race, get Koni's oranges. They don't make yellows for our cars. The oranges are single adjustable, but you can only do it when they're out of the car. And i beleive it only adjusts the bounce. They can also be sent in and revalved to be externally double adjustable if you want to get hardcore.

These shocks are great for the street as well. The soft setting is as comfortable as you'd want a 3500+ lb car to be. And they can get quite tense if you want them to be as well...

I didn't think it would be so hard to find shocks for these second gens..they made a zillion of them..have to still be some out there..see lots of second gens in my town.I tried to get some kyb agx..not made for our cars..some hal qa1's..not made it looks like..kyb has there basic shocks. Also looked at the competition engineering and summit 3 way adjustables but you have to bascially take them off the car to adjust them..what the heck??? I can adjust my kyb on the car.I am debating maybe the new edelbrock ias shocks but read at least one bad customer review that said they were junk. Not sure what to get now..my shocks on the car I think are like 23 years old..

i gotta tell you the Tokico's i put on my car a few years ago are just AWESOME

may want to look into them.
i think they are probably the best shock out there for the heavy 2ng gen cars.

plus after a few years they are still just a firm as the day i put them in.

Seriously 80TA... For everthing that you're mentioning, the Koni's will do you fine and some. They're adjustable, I run 50% Stiffness up front and 25% in the rear. They're comfortable. And they're not too bad on price for an adjustable shock. They cost me 600 Canadian dollars 2 years ago. When I bought a set of Yellows for my Honda Prelude, i had to spend $950 to get them.

So for a set of oranges you shouldn't have to spend any more than 400 USD. And they're a performance shock through and through.

Went over to koni website but didn't think the shocks offered for our cars were adjustable...maybe looked up wrong ones..or they aren't offered anymore maybe. I inquired about edelbrock ias and the guys at edelbrock tech said they weren't made for drag racing but would give nice ride around town and handle nice.I am not into autocross at all with this car or even my 99 taws6.Just doesn't interest me and its hell on tires and brake parts. So I might give the summit or ce adjustables a try even though they don't really adjust on the car it appears very easily if at all. They are pretty cheap especially the summit adjustables..just hope they aren't horrible on the street set to say 60/40 front and 50/50 rear.
or maybe 70/30 front or some similar combo.I have just got some air tools so should make it quicker to zip them on or off car if need be.Tokico has no adjustbles for second gens ..looked on their site..

Alrighty... But just as an FYI, all koni's are adjustable. If they don't say so on the website, then they're only internally adjustable. For instance you have to take the shock off the car and fully compress it until it clicks. then you spin the top and the bottom until you reach your desired setting.

Anyway, good luck.

Ok thanks msquared.....so then I think the konis are like the ce and summit..
I think I will cheap out and try the other kinds first...this is my beater race car afterall and things are rapidly looking like they will spiral out of control for costs of stuff.
