Seeking info on M6 install in '70 Z28

Topic says it...I'll be starting my '70 1/2 Z28 buildup soon and I'm planning on running a M6. Anyone have a link to info on the install or some personal experience I can feed on?

Thx...

Ed

I am sure it was ether HOTROD, Super Chevy , Car craft, Chevy High Per, that just did a article on a T-56 swap. But you can call D&D performance and ask them. Or look on the net and see the different mags home pages and archives and it should be there. Sorry that I could not be more specific, but I just moved and the wife made me get rid of most of my mags, and the couple of boxes that I kept are not unpacked. Good luck.

Your car should be similar to mine as far as fit is concerned so I'll share what I've found related to it.

If you're not worried about cost, there's either the Richmond 6 speed or the Tremec aftermarket t56. Either of them should bolt up without too much trouble, but would need the driveshaft shortened and may need the shifter hole in the floor to be opened up. They'll both use the speedo cable as is.

You can also use a t56 from a lt1 Camaro or Firebird, but if your engine is a 2 piece seal pre-1987 block then the flywheel from the lt1 will not work. I have heard that there is a source for a flywheel that would work, but I'm not sure who or where that is. Also, if you're retrofitting a late model production trans, you'll need to either get a vss to cable speedometer converter box or you'll need to have the tailshaft modified for the cable to drive the speedo. You'll also need to adapt the hydaulic clutch setup to you're car.

There was an article in Hot Rod in the last month or two about a new bellhousing system that McCloud is working on that would allow you to use an ls1 type t56 with any small block.

You can also get a Tremec TKO 5 speed that fits more easily for a bit less money than the aftermarket 6 speeds.
