Second gen rims......need help

I recently bought a 78 Camaro Sports Coupe. I want new rims (maybe Torque Thrust II's) but don't know what size I can run without modding the wheel wells. Anybody know the biggest without risking rubbing?

Thanx....Brad

You can run up to 8" width on your rims, and you can run up to 245/50/?? on the front and up to 275/50/?? on the rear. you can pretty much use the same sizes on any size rim you what. Cragar SS's are simliar to the tt2's but only cost around $120-150 per rim.

Technically it's possible to run 17" x 11" all around without much modification. However you need custom rims. A guy here that I autocross with has a set and I'm going to get a set made sometime this summer. Steering gets stiff up front when you're not moving as the steering system wasn't made to push around that much rubber. So go fast when you're turning. :-) The rear just looks beautiful.

Oh yeah, one little mod, you have to notch the front lower control arms so that you still steer lock-lock without rubbing the rim...

[edit] I forgot, there is a little bulge in the rear wheel wells towards the front of the car at the very bottom of the wheel well. I needed to pound that flat with a sledge hammer so that my 3rd gen 16x8" wheels with a 1/4" spacer wouldn't rub in hard cornering. You'll need to do this to mount most larger wheels if you plan to turn hard. [/edit]

If you don't beleive me, I'll try and get the exact wheel specs. His car is an '80 TA.

Here are links to pictures of his car (just in case you don't beleive me):
