Excellent choice might I say...

What does it have to begin with? Is it a plain Jane, RS, SS, etc? Its it going to be a daily driver, or fair weather cruiser, or a trailer queen?

I wouldn't go with anything bigger than 16"... even if you can get them to fit. (Looks stupid, IMO.)

A couple questions? What is your budget? How much do you plan to do yourself? What is your goal for this car? (cruiser, bracket car, show car?)

Get a crate 502. That solves the 500 horse question. I'd go with a TH400 or 4 speed. As for the wheels, I run 17's and I think it looks OK.

nothing wrong with big rims, I dunno about 19 or 20's though. but something like zoomin has looks good.
If you go with a big rim make sure it goes with the car, i've seen some of the worst looking wheels totally kill a cars look

Good luck bro. My suggestions: get a fast burn crate motor. Use the options to get to the 430 HP range. Then either bolt it up to a t-400 or a six speed. Make sure you get the right rear end gears...
Also on putting the big wheels on the car...take a look at this link. Scroll down and find the silver 69'. 18" front and 20" rear....I think it looks great...Pictures
