Rear window molding removal - '68 bird
Rear window molding removal - '68 bird
I want to remove the exterior rear window molding on my '68 bird. I know there is a special clip that hold the molding and hangs onto the studs on the body. I've bought these before for a '69 I used to have that got painted but that's been well over 10yrs ago and I don't remember how to remove them. I do remember it 's a little tricky untill you get the hang of it.
Are there some good instructions posted somewhere, like a guide? I need the tool of course and I can only imagine some are easier to work with than others so a specific brand/type and where to get it would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance.

You need a tool with a triangle shaped head. You slip it under moulding near a clip, slide sideways till one corner of triangle gets behind clip, then use tip of triange to wedge clip towards window center. Clip has a tiny lip on the part that goes toward edge of window. Lip retains moulding, so when you wege it in, it releases moulding.
I have also seen tools that looked like a Y and had hooks to the outside, but the idea is the same, get behind clip and pull it toward window center to release moulding.
