Post rear shock relocation and 17X9.5 wheels on a 67 ?'s

got a buddy with a 67 that is trying to move the rear shocks inward to fit a set of 17x9.5 wheels back there, i've seen a kit but can't find it any where, those any one know who makes one and what all is involved in getting the ZR-1 wheels to work on the back. thanks

I know summit has a bracket for moving the tops of the shocks to the inside, not sure if you have to move the bottoms though.

I've never owned a 67 and I know the shocks are mounted differently, but on my 69 the 17" wheels go over the shocks; there is no reason to move them for clearance. I thought the 67-68 were the same as I've seen many with 17" wheels that did not re-locate their shocks. On mine, the inner fenderwell is the first thing to get in the way, the shocks are no problem at all.

I have seen a lot of 67/8 Camaros with 17x9.5" wheels on the back with no mods to the shock location.
Take a look at www.racehome.com Tony, the owner of the site has an uncut '68 with 17x9.5's out back

i don't think that tony's car has stock rearend setup though, another thing what size adapter is needed for the rear to fit the ZR-1 wheel on there? I always thought it was about an 11/4 inch adapter. Am I wrong?

Yeah, that rearend looks far from stock. I put a 1 1/2" adapter on my 67 and the top of the 17x9.5 rim rubs agains the top of the shock absorber. So it looks like either (a) relocate the top of the shock or (b) get a 2" adapter. By the way, I'm the guy Paul is referring to in the first post. If anyone has a better solution, I'd be delighted to hear it!

True, Tony has a 9" in his car... but it dosen't move the shock towers.
You need to have 4" Backspace on a 17x9.5 wheel to fit the stock well

We'll find out for sure this Wednesday...I've got a set of 1999 Camaro SS wheels I'm gonna slap on. Not ENTIRELY unmodified...you need 2" adapters in the front and 1 3/4" adapters in the rear. I'll post pics...

I have 8.5x17x56mm ZO6 wheels 245/45s on the front. I pulled the springs out and put the wheels on with threaded rod to check to see what I needed for a spacer. Ended up going with 1 3/4" but I have a 89 TA gearbox in it and it has tighter stops than the stock one. I wanted to have it set as low as possible without hitting. The fender hangs over the tire about an inch.

I've given some serious thought to just going with the later model Camaro 5 spokes (16x8) just because of the lower hassle level and cheaper tires. Also, the guy I'm supposed to be buying the ZR1 rims from might be flaking out. That seems to happen a lot!

Well, I went ahead and did it. 17x9's off of a '99 SS. Wound up using the 1.5" adapters in the front and the 2" adapters in the rear because all four wheels rubbed when I did it the other way around. I have Wilwood calipers up front, though, so they may have some offset built into them. Anyway, it works great now, no rubbing, drives like a dream, and looks trick! Here's some pics:

Hmmmm...if you kill me you can have my car on one condition: You take over the payments on the other two!

Anyway, it's a good thing I deleted the license plate in the pics!
