Got a 79 Z, what do I do about the problem? What rear ends will go under it? Trans Ams of the same body style, Camaro's, and Firebirds... What can I do? I wanna have one in ASAP! THIS SUCKS!

 

You might consider trying to find the rear from a transam that had 4 wheel disc brakes. Pretty much any second gen 10 bolt will go right in.

Any diff out of a 2nd gen will bolt in, but Pontiac diff might take a different u-joint. I put a T/A diff under my Camaro and measured the 2 u-joints. The parts store guy didn't know which one to use, so I used the measurements to find one with the two diffent sizes I needed. On the shelf at Pep Boys. Someone at a specailty u-joint/driveshaft shop would probably know the number off the top of his head.
