Real SS or no?
I have a 67 Camaro "ss" im not to sure about it though. it has the emblems. but im not entirely sure. it has a new tranny and a different engine. the original engine was a 396 but now its a 1982 350. with a 92 th350 tranny. i was wondering if there is any ways to check if it is a real SS or not.

If it is an SS it will have a 12 bolt rear axle. If it had a big block installed from the factory, it will also have the heater core with the hose nipples toward the RH side of the heater box. It will also have the lower motor mounts typical of the BB. If that is not enough info, let us know.
i only have a 10 bolt rear end. it did have a spot for the heater core. but it was gone when i bought it. but he painted around it. so i know it was there. and it was factory big block. but it now has a 350. so what is it if its not a SS?

Check the trim tag on the firewall. Let us know what all the information is on that tag line by line. Especially look for the line that has a "4P" or "4N" or "4K". The 4P could be an SS350, the 4N and 4K are SS396 codes. It should have a 12 bolt rear for an SS but it might have been swapped out.

Was there anything below the W 2E line? If not, then it's not a real SS. The W is for tinted windshield and the 2E is air conditioning.

I just noticed that you're from Canada. If your car was originally sold in Canada, you can contact GM of Canada and give them your VIN and for a small fee ($35 US) they will send you a packet listing all the information on your car. If the car wasn't sold in Canada, then there is no cost to you. Go to www.camaros.org and www.camaros.net to get more information on the 67-69 Camaro.

I did try that with my 69 Z-28, but GM in the USA said that they didn't keep records of that old cars anymore. You might know where I could ask for more information. I found someone to ask on GM's website.

Unfortunately Chevrolet does not have the information on specific vehicles like GM of Canada. Pontiac owners can go to PHS (Pontiac Historical Services) and get a copy of all the options for their cars. There are still rumors circulating that the Chevrolet records are around and that someone is trying to put together a database like PHS, but don't hold your breath on that rumor.

You can always hope.
I would like to know the past of my car. I have records of all previous owners here in Sweden. What is known is that the bigblock I have was in the car when it came here in 1973.
It would be nice to find out its history in the USA before it was sold overseas.
It is probably sold new on the Eastcoast as most of the imports that came here in the 70's
We'll have to wait and see. There must be a lot more in the Chevy archives than in the Pontiacs :-)
