Questions about the engine I just bought...

As a lot of you know, I just bought an engine after mine gave out... I want your opinions, and how you think it'll run... And I knew that someone on here should know, so here we go -
I got the following:

350, .40 over, 282 Cam (Comp Cams I think), a set of nice chevy stock heads, Aftermarket pistons (dun remember who made them), and etc. The guys said that I should get about 10:1 - 11:1 compression and that I needed to go ahead and upgrade my rear end and tranny to back this engine up. My TH350 has been worked once already and feels strong... What do you guys think about that?

Also, if I ran a quadrajet carb would that be enough or do I need to go all out as it sits? Because I have 3 carbs sitting in my shop, and an intake... But in a month or two I plan to go to all high performance parts...

Also, I plan to open up my exhaust (currently turbos) and go with Dynomax's race bullets, and I wanted to know how they sounded on these cars? And with headers, is it tooooooo loud? lol

Can anybody tell me what kinda times I could expect, with just a little estimation? I need to know before I talk any smack.

Well thanX guys, and I am out for now... L8erZ

Ask him for some more info. Given what you have said, I'm inclined to say that you've got nothing more than a stock 8.5:1 or 9:1 smogger small block with an oversized cam.

As for the claimed Comp. Ratio....there's a big difference between 10:1 and 11:1. How did he figure you were getting that high of compression? Especially with stock heads? My guess is you are running around 9:1 tops.

I wouldn't worry just yet about beefing up your rear end. Though you might need a 2600+ stall converter for that cam. Also, you'll have low vacuum at idle.

Carb wise, I would go with a 650cfm Holley with vacuum secondaries.

Heads have been worked to some extent... The pistons are high performance, and I know the block is early 70's or late 60's... The head casting is like ummmmm 901, 902, 904... Something like that? I dun remember now, I'll have to get a look at it when I run back out there. NEwayZ, I'm really not sure about all this stuff, but I do know that he is a drag race car driver. NEwayZ, I'd like to know as much as possible...

BTW - is this quadrajet ok just for starters?

ALSO - how do short tubes compare to long tubes in performance??? And is my car the angle spark plug holes, are straight? I think it is straight, but I am unsure... I know that is like obvious but the block has been untouched since I got it.
