question about casting number

Hey I was going to try and find out for sure whether my car had a four bolt main and my casting number is 3970010, but I looked it up on one site and it said it could be a 302, a 327, or a 350 with either a 2 bolt main or 4, I was just wondering if anyone out there had any other way of identifying the engine.

Re: question about casting number

Not by just the casting number. The 010 block is just a 4" bore block. You've already seen that is was used with all the 4" bore displacements offered by GM. It's almost impossible to tell if it's a 2 bolt or 4 bolt without taking the oil pan off.

Try and get the suffix codes off the block. There's a bunch of numbers and letters stamped on a pad in the block in front of the passenger side head. They're usually full of dirt/oil/paint and hard to read. With those numbers, you have a better idea exactly what the block is.
