Qjet Choke on Vortec Manifold?
I'm putting new Vortec heads on my 1970 350 Chevy. I already have one of the Edelbrock Qjets, number 1901 with the divorce choke (with the bimetallic spring that mounts to the intake manifold heat riser). Problem is that the new Edelbrock manifold for the Vortec heads do not have a heat riser or a place to mount the bimetallic spring. Is there a kit to convert this carb to a manual or electric choke?? Or is there a kit to mount the bimetallic spring to the manifold?
Thanks,
Glenn

mounting the choke on the manifold wouldn't work well with vortechs - they don't have an exhaust crossover, so it'd take a good deal longer for the choke coil to warm up.
You'll have to contact edelbrock to see if there's a way to convert the divorced choke to electric, or switch to a 1904/1096 q-jet

GLenn, I hate to break it to you but I have not found a way to convert an old-style divorced choke QJet over to an electric choke. Nobody makes a kit and my efforts to cobble something together have met with limited success. Sorry. I think it's time to do some trading.
Damon,
Thanks for the response. What about converting to a manual choke? Is that possible. Seems you should be able to just push or pull where the bimetallic spring hooks up.

Glenn

Glenn, yeah, you could do that. It would have to be custom. No QJet (stock) ever came with a manual choke that I'm aware of. Only the knuckle-draggers who use Holleys would put up with stuff like that!

Kidding, Holley guys, just kidding.
