POP Question

I'm a novice to the 1st Gen scene and I have a Protect-O-Plate question for a '69. I have broken down my VIN and Trim plate numbers, but where do I find the Protect-O-Plate (if there even is one.)? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bart

well you could have a replacment door.
all you got to do is find a camaro just like your's,if it's a 69 z-28,rs,ss,basemodle camaro,Zl-1. ect you can call and order a new one from GM. all you need is your vin and proof of owner ship.

I believe the protectoplate is actually located in the original service book that was in the glove box. It is a metal plate that has the original owner's name and all of the info needed to do service on the car, including engine stamping info. To find a 69 with that is rare. When service was done at the Chevy dealer these cards were pressed like an old fashion credit card. The VIN on 67s is riveted on the driver's side front piller. After 67 they started putting the VIN in the dashboard. In a 1967 there is a plate on the driver's side of the engine side firewall. I believe it is in the same place for all first gens. It is also located there on 1970 Impalas.

The Protect-O-Plate is the metal tag that came with the warranty book and most of them were tossed out after the warranty expired. The trim tag is located on the firewall and that contains some meaningful information regarding color, interior, coupe or conv, build date. The VIN tag was attached to the door in 67, then was attached to the dash in 68 & 69. What information are you trying to find out? Post your trim tag information and we can help decode it for you. If the protect-o-plate isn't in the glove box with the warranty book, then you're not going to find it.

Actually, my Z28 has a factory built crossram manifold mounting 2 holley 600 DP's with no chokes. But none were ever installed at the factory, it was strictly an over the counter part. I believe the AMC crossram is actually an Edelbrock manifold. I don't know the AMC's well enough to know if that crossram is factory installed on some cars or an add on. My car still has the original 302 in it along with the original 4 wheel disc brakes.

they where Edelbrock intakes with amc part number's stamped into them. they where factory installed.
aka they where on the car when you picked it up,right off the show room floor. so i'm not sure it is an Edelbrock intake with an amc part number so you got me ?????????????????
it wasn't after market as far as you bought the car then went to checker or all car and got a crossram intake and put it on. it came already on the car with an amc part number.

Add that, 67's have some of the trim information on the cowl tag. On the 68's that info is limitied to exterior color/top (if applicable), interior trim and color, and coupe/convert, V8 or L6. In '69 additional cowl info was added back on but mainly on the X code cars out of Norwood. Unless you have the matching protect-o-plate or build sheet (sometimes found under the rear seat), '68's are next to impossible to authenticate without documentation... hense the reason you see so many "real" '68 Z/28's and SS's for sale. (Like there were than many more than plain Janes? )

Good documentation will always add to the value of the car. That's why there are now guys out there that are fabricating "replacement" cowl tags and even protect-o-plates.
Anything to make a buck I guess. Just be careful.

Thanks but I was able to break down my VIN and Trim plate ('69 V8 Coupe built in Norwood in the 3rd week of October in '68, Daytona Yellow w/ black vinyl top and standard black interior.) I was just doing some reading about the P-O-P and was wondering where it was located. It sounds like I definitely do not have it.

Thanks for all the replies!
