Pontiac 301 turbo
Pontiac 301 turbo
This is a 2 part question
1 I have access to a 301 turbo motor thats in a 78 TA right now. I want to know if its possible to take the heads, exhuast manifolds, and turbo off of it and slap it on the 400 in one of our 78 TAs. Would the heads even bolt up to the block? I know everything from a 326 (?) - 455 are the same block and heads and intake and everything works, but im wondering about how the 301s are set up. Also if the heads do bolt up what else do I need? Carb, intake, ect ect? I doubt this would happen, it just kinda popped into my head and I wondered what would happen...you can always dream...
2 how well do the heads off a 301 turbo flow? could i use the 6X heads off the 400 with the turbo manifolds?
I think there were more that I thought of but its late and I dont remember...

Re: Pontiac 301 turbo
the 301 heads should bolt to and pontiac block, but the 301 heads have differnt intake and exhaust ports and bolt patterns than traditional heads(so you have to use the 301 intake mani, and the 301 may have a defern't deck hight than the 326-455) and the 301 heads don't flow near the 6x heads
and the lil t-3 turbo used on the 301 would be way to small for the 400(same turbo setup used on the carb'd turbo 3.8 buicks,I have one)
