I'd like to built the most powerful engine i can within a reasonable price. My plan so far is to start with a chevy 400 small block and get some old 305 heads. I will have them machined, then I want to put on dual intake and dual edelbrock 500 cfm carbs. i also plan on using a high rpm camshaft, roller rockers, forged pisons, pete jackson timing, and a steel crank. am i on the right track? should i use a completely different block? will the 400 handle 1000 cfm? would i greatly benefit from new heads, valves, springs? anything else i should add to my engine for more power? do i need aftermarket connecting rods? will i need an aftermarket fuel pump? how about the stock HEI distributor. is that ok?
