no spark

79 z28 - starter is turning engine normally, but it wont start. checked spark cables and im not gettin any spark on the spark plug end. So its gotta be a distributor problem right? i know the cables themselves are good. i got the ac delco - remy distributor, how do i find out what exactly it is and then to repair/replace.

look at the underside of the car to see if it worn out so it wont let spark jump for the coil plug to the rotor if these look new then its probably your ignition control module located under the rotor check these and let me know how they look

I think he meant cap, as in distributor cap. They can get carbon tracked so spark goes elsewhere instead of to spark wires.

You can take the module to Autozone and they will test it for free. Can also be the coil.

12 volts

this same thing happened to me in my 69. I replaced everything inside the dist, and nothing worked. I eventually gave up, and hauled it to my mechanic. He looked at it for about half an hour, then fixed it. The power wire going to the dist, wasn't giving a full 12 volts. He replaced the wire and it started right up.jon

cut the red wire or power lead to the distributor and then reconnect it you'll be amazed..
