Post Need Help Choosing new intake

Long story short, I busted my intake and need a new one, rather then getting the same one again i am looking to get something that performs a little better.

My engine spec's are in my sig, basically I need the intake to make power on the mid to high range from 3k-6500, as i have a 3000 stall and my cam requires the stall.

I have measured my hood clearence and i am good to about 4 1/2-4 3/4" carb base clearance. (that is with my existing air cleaner setup, i could go with the triangle foam cleaner to gain another inch or so)

Thanks!

John

Performer RPM it flows very well and will not kill any low end..
My single plane choice would be a weiand stealth 7546 as this is the closest we can get to the original torker intake from edelbrock..Its like a closed plenum victor jr..id say the stealth 7525 but im not sure if the ports are big enough..

If you need to replace the 8004 that im guessing you have i have one i'll sell you for $20 if you come pic it up..I dont want to pack more than i have to in my move..

From your post im thinking that you are concerned with hood clearance so that reflected my suggestions

I'm assuming when you say 8004 you are talking about my existing xcelerator intake, I am not sure which model it is as it was on the car when i purchased it and has been on their for like 8 years or something.

I heard good things about the RPM so i am leaning twards that.

The RPM does sit taller but ive had one for my vortec 350 in my old 88 caprice..Worked well and didnt lose any low end..She does bretah really well upstairs..Compared to the stock alloy 4bbl intake i only had to remove the stock hood insulation to get it all to fit with a factory air cleaner..Im sure that you have a dropped base aftermarket so you should be ok..

Are you still in philly, i know a guy in yeadon tyhat has one for sale for 75 smacks..I can email you his phone # if you want..

I recently moved to middletown DE because of my job... I wish i could jsut find a decent job closer to philly, i actually miss it. whenever i give someone directions to my new place it is basically "turn left at the 3rd cornstalk", it is that bad.

I may be holding off on the intake for now, money is a little tight and the car is low priority right now.

i'm just trying to do my homework before i do anything.

Where are you moving to?

Vic Jr. It's probably the best intakes ever built for the small block Chevy. With the 3000 stall you don't need any low end. From 3000-up the Vic will probably run about even with the Performer RPM, just pulling ahead of it way up high.

But you really can't go wrong with either one. They both seem to be designs that work well on almost anything.

Doesnt the victor Jr sit pretty high? i will double check on that, but i do not think it will clear my hood.
