I found a reciept in the glove box of my 34,000 original mile 69 Z/28 from ellison performance in Oh. dated 1974. It had a name that I looked up on the computor and found seven matches in the Ohio erea. It was a long shot but I wrote a letter and sent it to all seven adresses. About one week afterward I got a phone call from a guy who said he was the freind of the owner of the car back then and he put me in touch with the original owner. To make a long story short I got original photos of the car when it was new and the original Protect plate witch was great considering it was a non X code car.

A car that old will probably not have a history. You can try contacting the national F-body Assoc. and give them the VIN. They might be able to tell you the exact specs on the car but that is about it. Nothing more than a chevy book will do.
Re: Need help about 69 camaro
well you can look up the specs yourself. If you post the VIN, partial Vin and engine date code I can take a look, or you can PM it. If youre looking at collision history, you can TRY to go to your DMV and get a history on the title and see if it was ever a salvage title. If the vehicle was ever out of that state though your SOL because the states dont like to talk to each for things like this other for some reason. (eg if you sell a car and it is not retitled in someone elses name in your state, it can be in their name in their state and still in your name in yours)

Re: Need help about 69 camaro
1st digit 1 = Chevrolet
2nd digit 2 = Camaro
3rd digit 4 = V8, 3 = straight 6
4th digit 3 = coupe, 6 = convertable
5th digit 7 = fixed # meaningless number on all 69 camaro's
6th digit 9 = Model year
7th character N = the Body was built in Norwood Ohio, L = Van Nuys (Near LA)
8-13th digit is the sequential production body number starting from 500000
your partial VIN should read 19N(8-13th digit of VIN)
If your VIN reads 1233 and its a V8 know that it was a straight from the factory. if your VIN is not in this format, its not because I dont know what Im talking about, most likely the car was stolen and was stuck with the VIN of another car which Ive seen one person post online.
Engine code is as follows
XMMDD(2 Digit engine code) eg X1124DZ
Where X = the engine plant
MM = The month 11 would be NOV
DD = Day 24 would be the 24th
DZ = Engine code (DZ actually means Z28, if it aint DZ, it aint Z28)
Engine codes will be found under the alternator from Sept 68-around Sept 69 From around Oct 69- Feb 70 for the 69 Camaro production year the Engine code location was moved to above the oil filter stamped sideways into the rough of the block on the thin flat spot where it meets the bell housing for norwood car. This was to avoid moving the alternator to make the partial VIN stamp during production. Yes the 69 was produced up till Feb 70.
