Need 302 parts....
Re: Need 302 parts....
I just sold a set of ported sept. 1969 heads. look for a set of 186 casting double humps they came on them lunati make a copy of the cam it's called an off road special. part # 20105 and cran make one also #3927140. the heads on the 302's had the 2.02 and 1.6 valves screw in studs and guide plates from factory. it's easier to find a set that doesn't have that and have the work done it's exspencive though. good luck.
Re: Need 302 parts....
You should still be able to purchase new 492 heads from GMPP. 12480092
The cam is available from Crane. 967251
Federal-Mogul Performance has the domed pistons.
L2210AF std or 30

Re: Need 302 parts....
You may also use 5.94" rods from GMPP and standard pin location 350 pistons for more options and lighter weight. The longer rod does make it a bit lazier.
The 140 off-road cam will be stupid roudy in the 302 for which it was designed for. Expect a 1000-1100 rom idle with that cam. The Crane number I posted is the factory cam which is still 254@.050".

Re: Need 302 parts....
Yeah, 186 heads get pricey and if you don't have a #'s matching Z28 then I would go with some equivalent heads. The 140 cam is the off-road cam and was really designed to work with the crossram setup. That's the cam I'm using on my 69 Z28 with the crossram. You need to determine how much of an overbore your block is before deciding on pistons. I think the part he listed above is for a .030 over 302.
Re: Need 302 parts....
By the way I built a 302 for my 69 with the above rods and SRP 9cc pistons.
I also started off with the 2nd generation off road 302 cam.
The 2nd gen cam idled at 1300 rpm and at 1250 rpm the engine wanted to shut off. Power is available from 4000 till your springs give out. My 924-16 springs ran up to about 7800. While it ran fairly well, I wouldn't build another one for any kind of street racing. I also ran 3 roller cams through it with various intakes and header sizes. The 302 is cool for solo fun with the 4 speed and rpm. It sounds pretty good and is fun to talk to people about, but ET in an all steel first gen is nothing to get excited about, keep that in mind.
