Im pretty sure L88 was the designation for the 435 hp 427 ci motor in vettes from like 68-69. Then in 70 they went to all 454s.

But if its in a '78 vette somebody would have had to drop it in there, cause they didnt come with big blocks, let alone one with 435 hp.

They had some similarly named options around those years. Like L82, and L78 I think. SO he may have just mistaked the number in the add. But I dont think any of those exceed 210 hp.

Maybe he meant the L82 engine which was a 350. If it has an L88 in it, then that would be the 427.

Just a wild guess, but if it's in the local classifieds as an L-88 kit, I'm quessing that its an L-88 hood scoop and body kit only. (Could be just the L-88 hood though.)

See the link below... (The L-88 hood is the second one down on the left.)

FWIW - Baldwin/Motion used the L-88 scoop on their Phase III Camaro supercar in 1969. Very retro if you like the Day 2 look. (Which I do )

You could buy just the L-88 scoop and mount it on a stock 3rd gen hood.

I had considered that, but I want to see what it would look like first And I havent seen anyone else try it yet.
