L65 info

Well, my 73 Camaro have an L65 stock engine (digit H in Vin number) with 2bbl carburator, stock ignition, etc.
My question is: Is this a good base to obtain about 220 hp?
Stock power are 145 hp.

I think to put on it an Edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor #1406, Edelbrock performer intake, performer plus camshaft and a electronic ignition convesion kit Pertronix in the stock points distributor.

Is this a correct combination? I don't want a race car, I only want the car will be a little fast.

Suggestions?

Thanks.Fran.

the intake and cam sounds good for 220...you can probably find a good used HEI for less than the conversion not to mention if anything goes wrong you can get parts from your local parts store. The edelbrock 1406 is a very lean jetted carb and doesn't do a very good job of makeing hp. i put one on my 84 truck and actually lost power over the rochester Q-jet i did go up from 8mpg to about 11mpg but i hated the power loss. i would go with the manual choke version of the 600cfm edelbrock because the jetting is alittle richer and ur engine will be able to us it with the intake/cam. Manual choke isn't bad at all and the extra power will make you happy. that should push you around 220hp maybe a tad more but i would also recommend headers because with the intake and cam you will probably feel the motor being held back but i know you will be happy withyour new found hp andthe headers can come at a later date. the headers will take a bit of work to put on if you have A/C and a muffler shop will have to fix up ur exhaust pipe.

but overall i think you'll be able to get by cheaper and get more hp if you stick with ur performer intake and cam and go to the manual 600cfm carb and get a used HEI.the hp will be perfectly streetable and reliable. and an hei is easy to hook up. you could prob get everything you need good and cheap from a junkyard.

if you have any more questions just ask an someone will help u out

Main problem here in Spain is that it does not have any old american car in yunkyards. I have to buy all parts in USA, and this is a problem to buy used parts.

Other question: A third gen hei ignition fit in my engine without modified?
