its done, now I want to make it fun

Well I finally got my gen 1 SBC into my 94 and now I am looking to make it into a fun weekend car. I am planning on getting gears, a cam and a converter and then going from there. Keep in mind I'm building this car to prove how cheap I can do it to the company I worked for when I started the project in january, I have got most of the parts used. Thank god I'm a mechanic and can do everything myself. Total cost for parts so far is just under $1800,(yes its basically complete) I have got allot of stuff used and gotten great deals on top of that. I wont go into everything unless people ask but lets just say I have allot of friends. I have also kept track of the labor and if I were to be paying for all the work I would have had to shell out $10,125 so far on top of $3500+ worth of parts had I paid full price.

The engine is a GM goodwrench crate motor-
350cid 4 bold main
8.5:1 compression ratio
76cc combustion chambers
hydraulic flat tappet .450"/.460" 114°

I am running a turbo 400 BTW.

Other than a cam the engine will remain in its current state till it gets a complete build over the winter.

So what cam, torque converter and gear would you recomend?
Thanks in advance.

This is the only picture I have right now, I'll take more eventually... Yes it is a cell phone picture.

If you can possibly scrounge up some used Vortec heads and a matching intake you'll be way ahead of the game. Not only will they get your compression up to a more reasonable 9:1 they'll also blow away those old smoogger castings in flow and power potential. You sound pretty resourceful in scrounging used parts to set your sites on Vortecs and a matching intake.

Don't touch the cam. It's a re-pop of the old L-79 cam it it'll work just fine once you get some compression and better flow to feed it. It's 222/222* @ .050 duration. Plenty big- frankly, too big for the low compression lousy-flowing heads on that crate motor. And, by the way, the modest lift will work PERFECTLY with stock, unmodified Vortecs!

Converter should be at least a 2500 for streetability, preferrably 3000 for max-effort launches to work with that cam.
