ignition switch help

ok i know this is suppose to be for camaros but i desperately need some help with my classic stang and would definitely appericiate any help you guys might be able to offer me. Ok so here is the problem, i recently pulled the motor out of the car to have it rebuilt. I had to move the car to clean the engine bay so when I stuck the key in the ignition to unlock the wheel, when i came back to take it out it was stuck. Was i not suppose to unlock the wheel? Has any body ever ran into this problem before? If you guys could give me any info on troubleshooting this problem I would really appreciate it.Thanks

Since your ignition is column mounted, there should be some kind of interlock between the transmission and column to prevent the key from being removed with the trans in any gear other than Park.

If you pulled the trans, the linkage is probably hanging loose and could have shifted when you turned the key. Shift it back up and try to turn the key back to Lock.
