Ignition Boxes??

I got a 69 Camaro that has a MSD 6AL iginition box but the guy who owned it before was a terrible electrician and when i turned my switch on it fried all my wires and ate my box.I was wonderin if I should just replace it or if their are any others I should look into? Also,is it worth the extra money for the 6AL over the 6A.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

i believe the AL has a rev limiter

If you return the 6AL box to MSD they'll go through it for you. It probably has blown the internal fuse system that protects it from people such as the previous owner of your car. All wiring diagrams and general instructions for MSD products are online at <http://www.msdignition.com/>. If you call or e-mail them, they'll provide excellent support.

67speeda is correct, the AL box incorporates potential for a rev limiter.
I've installed and/or used most of the systems from a 6A up to and including Digital 7. If the wiring is done correctly and common sense is used in placing and protecting the box, it will serve well for a long time in a race environment. I suspect that they are more than adequate for street use although I rarely enter that domain.

most of the newer boxes are great. the only diff in 6al is rev limiter. i like the mallory for the price and the no pill changes for the rev limiter. all of my race cars use msd though(personal choice)

What kinda motor and HP are we talkin about?

If its 450 or less,I'd just put a HEI w/ a 50,000 volt coil it in and ride on.

A buddy of mine has a '70 Nova w/ a vortec 355 that runs 8.0 in the 1/8...had the 6AL for a week (brand new) and it took a **** and has been runnin HEI ever since.

I think MSD is WAY overrated for a street car personally...our race car (in sig) has an MSD 7AL so Im not saying its junk but for a street car its unnecessary.
