header question
header question
ok, i have a 78 camaro that had a 4.1L in it, itsin the shop no gettin a new vortec 350 put in it. I need to get a setof headers for it. I wanna get hooker longtubes. The shop tht is doing the work says the headers have to be specifically for a vortec 350, does hooker make longtubes for it? if so does anyone have the part #. Thanks in advance
I would think regular 350 headers would work. Unless the exhaust port is a different shape.
I believe there are two different ports.
One shaped like this: 0
And another shaped more like this: []
I could easily be wrong, though.

The vortek engines have angle plug heads, so you can't use regular classic sbc headers. Hedman makes an inexpensive set, which I have on my car (angle plug heads). I'm not happy with them though. They warped badly after cam break-in and I've had a hard time getting them to seal since. I'll replace mine with Hookers. :/
Don't put coated headers on an engine during break-in. The unusually high temperatures that sometimes occur during break-in can damage the coating.

Funny you should ask this... I happened to ask the same questions last night. At Nastyz28.com Now I see I wasn't the only person confused about it. I had heard many of the things that were mentioned in this topic which are innaccurate (example- Vortec's are angle plug heads, you have to run Vortec headers)
I found out that the truth was that I could run any headers I wanted and that they were straight plug heads. If you want the whole topic drop me an email and I'll let ya check out the whole thing.
