Which gears to run?

I have a 1st Gen Camaro w/a 12 bolt, aftermarket axles.. 4.88 gears w/a spool, 30" tall tires. Motor is a blown 383 SBC. I dont want to go over ~6k rpm and am wondering what a optimum gear is for street and strip assuming a 30" tall tire.

I will move this to Classic Tech as it really isnt an 'Advanced' question.

Stick with the 4.88s. IMO anyway.

What kinda MPH do you expect? Just run the numbers backwards shooting for 6000 RPMs at that MPH and you're right there. A 30" tall tire rolls about 94" per tire revolution, BTW.

As kind of a wild guess I would bet you'll turn about 3400 at high way speeds. I know a guy that has 4.11s in a 69 chevelle. When he hits 70 mph that engine is starting to really hummmmm.
