Gear question and suggestions help...
Hey guys, ive got a 67 camaro with the 327 and need some help as to what gears to put in. Also if you could help me out with any suggestions with my current setup plus what im about to be puting in that would be great.
Currently i have a Crane Cam(458"/473" lift, 228º/234º duration)
Weiland High rise intake manifold, Hedmann Longtube headers, Flowmaster Catback, 650 holly carb.
I just ordered a set of 64CC race heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, bronze valve guides, mild porting and all that good stuff. I also just got some 1.6 ratio roller rockers and am having a 350 turbo tranny built right now to replace the 2 speed powerglide. Its going to have a transco shift kit, hardened input shaft high stall converter (suggestions as to size???) and everything else to hold quite a bit of power. I also just got the bigger carrier for the rear end to hold the steeper gears. Im just not sure what gears to go with?? I am thinking 3:55's or 3:73's? What would be the best for my combo? Is there anything else i should get to help me out? What kinda RPM's am i going to be running with either of these gears? I dont do much driving with it. I only live about 5 miles to work and do some occassional highway driving. Are these gears going to be to steep for highway use? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys.

With that cam in a 327, I think 3.73 would be better than the 3.55's. If you run a 28" tall tire (like say the BF Goodrich 275-60-15 Drag Radial), you'd turn about 2,700 rpm at 60. If you didn't already have a TH350 in the works, I'd say to swap the PG with an overdrive tranny like the 700 or 200r4. Not only would it drop cruise rpm, both of these have deeper 1st gears than the TH350 to help get the car going with a smaller engine.
2,700 cruise isn't that bad for a weekend car. I do about that in my 71, and my drive to the track is about 30 miles round trip. But for a daily driver.... it all depends on how much of a maniac you are. My nephew ran 4.11's in a Chevelle when it was his daily driver, and he was fine with it. But a gallon premium was about a dollar back then.
