Usually just a minor interference with the block which can be take care of with an angle grinder. I have used 3 of them and have never had to, but could see where you would need to. Its a good idea to upgrade to an aluminum time chain cover, because sometimes the stocker will bend with cam walk.

gear drive is SUPER annoying after a day or two of driving with it on your car. Get a quality double roller timing chain and be happy you won't get headaches from the drone.

I tend to lean towards agreeing with the above statement, but he didn't ask that!!! I have one in a 22 T-bucket and love it but its barely heard over the pipes... I don't know if I would like it at all with a quiet exhaust.

Nothing wrong with the car sounding like it's got a blower on it.
I"m guessing I have one on my 1971 Camaro.
I have not taken the timing cover off to check but I'm sure it's there I think is sounds cool.
I can't hear much of it because of that dam loud Flow-Master.

i have a gear drive on my roller L98 and its not loud at all. if anything im upset that i cant get a louder set. you can also put the gear drive on a computer controlled car with out issues from the knock sensor.

How is that??? I heard on here numerous times, AND every gear drive set on SUMMIT that "cant be used on computer vehicles with a knock sensor". Just tune out the sensor?! ---

i am no expert, and never claimed to be 
in my experience, some knock sensors are more sensivite than others. you can also make the sensor less sensitive to engine knocks or vibrations caused by the valve train. another thing, and maybe again its just me, but ive found that different oils (thickness and synthetic) seem to quiet the gear drives a bit. the only difference between the loud and quiet sets is how tight the gears mesh. the quiet set doesnt transfer as much vibration as the loud. i would still like to know what the exact difference is between the 2 sets bacuase if its just the 2 floating gears in the center, i will buy the loud set and switch the gears to make my roller cam set a loud set. i am also not using the summit brand, i used the edelbrock set, if that makes any difference either.
a last word....every time summit has told me "you cant do that" i buy it anyways and it works just fine. my entire car is a "cant do that" and i love it. cant put a tunnel ram, cant put the gear drive, cant put the cam, cant use those tires. seems like everything ive always wanted as a kid, is something i cant use on a 1988 trans am

p.s. oh and when i said "make the sensor less sensitive" it doesnt disable it. my sensor still retarded the timing if it knocked under hard acceleration, or with crappy gas.
