Gas in vacuum advance cannister?

Pretty much like the topic says, how did it get there?
I was putting my distributor back in after a cam change and found the vac advance can full of gas. I had the hose hooked up to the bottom front vac port on my 3310 holley (full vac).
With the old cam I only pulled about 5" vacuum in gear. Could that be the cause?
Everything is new, driven & raced for 3K miles only.
