fuel injection fuel system help

I am planning out my ls1 swap. I wanted to know the cheapest way to convert my carbed system to FI. I was thinking a external pump, reg, filter, with -8 feed and -6 return line. the only question i have is weather or not i can put a return on a oem fuel tank???

thanks again

What year ls1? the 99+ ls1's were a 1 line system (no Return). As for the way to convert it from carboration to Fuel Injection, would be to add an external fuel pump inline on the factory tank lines. If youve got faborcation skills you can do anything!

Re: fuel injection fuel system help

yeah but that would overwork the pump. Shouldn't there be a return from the regulator back....

Re: fuel injection fuel system help

I welded a steel pipe bushing to the upper right side of my '69's tank. A radiator shop can handle it for you if its a used tank.

True, late LS1's are considered a returnless system from the rail point of view. They still return however from the fuel filter back into the tank to the regulator. You may feel free to run aftermarket rails and plumb a regulator there and return to the tank. Just don't manifold reference the regulator with the stock programming.

how much would it be to have my tank modified. I dont want to weld to it....BOOM...

i never messed with tanks before.

what do you mean by "don't manifold reference the reg with PCM"?

what he means is, the stock regulator doesn't use a vacuum compensation line to the regulator, so, if you run one with the stock programming, it's won't like it

I would use the stock rails, get the tank welded with a -06 or -08 fittting, ran a external pump, then a 3 port regulator(return style), return the fuel back to the tank via the OE fuel pickup tube, then run the single line to the engine

If not going to be driven in bad weather, I would have both the pump and regulator under the car near the fuel tank

Re: fuel injection fuel system help

You could give these guys a try
http://www.rockvalleyantiqueautoparts.com/catalog.htm

I bought a new tank from them when I put the LT1 in my 69 and the tank came ready to go. Very easy. They show a listing for 99 newer LS1 style. I didn't go stainless just stamped steel because of price and it did take a little while to get.
