Post found a 68 convt camaro for sale, should i buy?

Ok I was on vacation camping and i found a 68 camaro for sale. The lady got it from the divorce and she said it was sitting for 15 years, but it had work before it was put away. I can see some rust on the drivers side rocker panel, and there is bondo all over the quarters, doors, and rockers, but it looks halfway decent. I am no stranger to auto work, but i am to camaro's, and I have been looking for a reasonably priced convertible for some time. If anyone knows what kind it is (RS, SS, RS/SS, or whatever), that would be great.

It says it has 185,000 miles but i drove it and it runs strong, so i think it might have a rebuilt engine

it has a 327 w/ a 4 barrel
white leater with a white power top.
automatic(do you know what kind?)
front plastic grill, and the lights are not hidden.

thanks for all the help anyone gives out

Cool

Sounds like a standard convertible to me.
An RS would have hidden "hideaway" headlights. An SS would not originally be a 327. A Z28 would be a 302 and a 4-speed. Without more info (like the price) who knows what it may be worth.

Sounds like a standard convertible. If it's original and not modified then it should be a Powerglide 2 speed automatic with probably some 2.73 gears. Any 67-69 Camaro conv that is restored should be selling for $10-12K assuming it's not an SS or RS. That's also assuming it has the original engine in it. Did you check the #'s on the pad on the front of the engine on the passenger side just in front of the head? Just look out for the rotted out rockers and frame rails. Check the floors and trunk for rust as well. If the car needs floors, trunk, rockers, quarters, doors, fenders all replaced, then you'll be dumping a lot more into it than it's worth.

oh i completely forgot the price, they are asking $7000 for it, but i think i might be able to get it for 6k or less. I have been doing some research and it is a base model convertible. I know that 2spd would have to come out right away.. the odometer says 185,000 miles but it runs like a champ, so where exactly are the #'s for checking if the engine is origional?

I always wanted to put a 454 in one of these, but if it has the origional engine, i would like to build that up, how do the 327's perform, and how good of a engine are they?

thanks for the help so far.

Here's a picture of where to look for the engine codes. http://www.camaros.org/1967-68_V8eng...p_location.jpg You can get some good power out of the 327. If you swap to a big block, you'll need to redo the front suspension and cooling system. Depending on the shape of the body and whether it's the original engine or not, that price is a little on the high end for a high mileage car like that. Depending on the engine, I wouldn't go too much more than $5000.

Not sure what part of the country you are in, but look out for hidden rust. I bought a car from the north and it had a lot of hidden rust once I got in to it, both rear quaters were replaced plus we did floor pans both rockers and other minor areas. to give you an idea though, it was a stock conv, 2.71 rear, 2sp, blck power top, 327 210hp and I paid 10,000. But like I said it looked better then it was do to hidden rust. It was so bad the bodyshop said if I had taken a hit in the side it would have more then likely broken the car in half do to rust. It was from driving on the salty roads though.
