Hey guys, I did a search and found some information but I figured I'd post another Thread to try and get alittle more.
I have a 1967 Firebird 400 with an old rusted out Exhaust. I believe it has Hooker LT's, some diameter Pipes and what seems to be Thrush Thompson Mufflers. One side has a hole right before it hits the muffler.
Eventhough it's rusted out, I have to admit it sounds pretty bad ***, but it definately needs to be replaced. I'm thinking of 3 inch pipes with some kind of Muffler, I dont want Cherry Bombs. I dont want it to be quiet after it's installed either, I want it to be loud, but somewhat refined, yet still bad ***. The last thing I want is a Minivan being louder than my Big Block.
So any suggestions? Sorry for the long Thread.

Flowmaster has a full kit, its 2.5 pipes. H-pipe all the tubing and mufflers. OR you can just get one made with some of the delta flow i think they are called mufflers they are quieter but still have that nice sound.
Flow master has a New muffler out there, i would look into..
they have the 40 series, which is quite a nice muffler, then the 40 series delta flows as noted above, its the same muffler but not as loud.
but they have this new muffler the Super 40 series, which is loud SOB with little internal sound and dynoed better and outflows both the older 40series.

So Flowmaster seems to be a popular choice, huh? It's not very liked among the 4th Gen guys.
I'll look into their systems, they arent htat expensive either are they?
I believe my Compression is 10:1 or 11:1, I'll double check.
You think I should go for Flowmater Mufflers too? What about Magnaflow and Dynomax?

if ur running 10:1 or higher go to a 3" piping.
Flowmaster and Magnaflow are really good..
lots of 4thgen ppl don't care much for the flowmaster because the LT1 gives off a different exhaust node then a SBC would.

So Flowmaster doesnt sell a 3 inch system for my car? I read in Car Craft that they came out with one for the Coronet. I figured if they made one for the Coronet, they should have one for the F-Bodies.

i think most lt1 guys don't care for the performance issue of it
most guys that i've heard, say they love the sound but hate the performance
and that's because lt1 are pretty much forced to use a transverse with that 80 series restrictive muffler, while you guys can run true duals (very hard on a 4th gen) and you guys can use the 40 series and all those otherflowmaster mufflers that flow nice

My gold 67 RS has stock exhaust manifolds 2-inch pipes and glasspacks!
I love the oldschool mellow sound.On my kid's blue 67 coupe, we're going with headers (probably Thorley) and the Flowmaster 2.5-inch kit with the H-pipe. I was debating about going with an X-pipe instead (slighty more hp over the H-pipe) however I like the fact the Flowmaster has a full kit. We aren't running it all the way back to the bumpers though. We're going to either turn down the tips at the rearend, or run the pipes out infront of the rear wheels with flared stainless tips.
Our '96 Mustang is running 2.5-inch pipes, a Borla X-pipe, & Original Flowmaster 40 Series (no, not the Delta Flows). It sounds simply wicked!

3-inch is becoming more popular, but in most cases, its overkill in my opinion. 2.5-inch is pretty freaking loud, especially with the 40 series Flowmasters.
Personally I'd go with the Dynomax, Magnaflow, or Hooker mufflers. I just don't care for the hollow metallic sound of 40 series. It isn't a bad sound, I just like the others better.
If you want 3", there is a place that advertizes in the car mags for mandrel bent 3 and IIRC 4" systems. I just can't remember their name.
The 4th gens that don't like Flows are predominantly on this board. Someone said they dynoed and lost power w/them. I see a lot of 4th gens on the road w/them though. Mine has an 80 series on the stock piping. Its pretty quiet, though not as quiet as stock, and pops between shifts when its cold. I'll live with it until I get a 3.5" or dual system. Then again, I may just run a cut out so it'll be relatively quiet on road trips.

My 4th gen is dead stock. However, I have a friend with a 98 Z28 that's running the Hooker Aerochamber. He says its mellow at idle but opens up nicely at WOT.
I didn't like the sound of the Mustang when we first got it. At the time it had Flowmaster Delta 40 Series mufflers on it. It did sound a little tinny and metallic to me. My kid kept saying to swap them for Original 40 Series, at first I didn't think there would be much of a difference, but let me tell you... its like night and day. The sound is much deeper and mellower. However if inconspicuous is your bag, they may be a little too harsh... especially if you're also running an X-pipe.
