Engine Block Codes

I got an engine today and I am having problems figuring out what it is.

Engine ID: V0924CLM 18S406048

Block Casting Number: GM 3970010

Some websites are saying it was a 302 out of a 1969 Z-28 camaro and others are saying it was out of a 70s camaro or truck. Im confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 010 casting indicates a 4" bore block. That casting was used to make 302, 327 and 350 engines.

V0924CLM

V= Flint engine plant
0924 = Sept 24
CLM is either a 1973 350 out of a Z28 Camaro that had a 4 speed behind it. It can also be a 1976 350 L48 out of a Vette or a Monte Carlo. It's definitely not out of a truck. Is there a pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft? Now the confusion starts.

18S406048 is the last part of the original car's VIN number. Personally I think the first 8 is really a 3 or a 6 because it will make more sense.

1 = Chevrolet
8 = 1978 so if this is really a 3 it will be a 1973. Since your 8 could also be a 6, it would be a 1976.
S = St. Louis assembly plant (for the car) or the Ramos Arizpe assembly plant
406048 is a sequential number

1973 Camaro sequential numbers started with 100001 so the engine isn't from a 73 Camaro. Providing that 8 is then really a 6, it's either a Vette or Monte Carlo block.

Then on the other hand, it's just another 010 block and nothing special.

More casting numbers from the heads, intake, carb etc can narrow down what it might be from providing they're still original.
