drum to disk

I have a '68 camaro with front drum brakes, Im wondering if anyone knows of any cheap ways of converting to disk. I can buy the kit for around $1200 CDN, but i would rather look for a less costly way of converting.

Find an early 70's Nova w/discs and swap the complete system over to your car.

My nephew did this on a Chevelle he used to own. Bought a junk, engineless 72 Monte Carlo for $75 and stripped it like the indians did the buffalo. He did trade in the used master cylinder and calipers for rebuilds from Autozone. Also installed new flex hoses. Total cost for everything was well under $200.

Are you doing the Pro Touring deal, or just want to upgrade? Discs are nice, but I think drums are cool too. You could hotrod your drum brakes with some shoes and a trick hardware kit from Praise Dyno Brake, put in some wheel cylinders for a station wagon, lightly scuff the drums to break the little grooves (and glaze if there is any), and turn the adjuster until you can barely get the drum over the shoes. Heck, you might even be surprised at the difference even if you only crank on the adjuster a bit!
