Decoding motor again...PLZ

The number on the driver side rear of the block is 8(could be 3, so hard to see)956618 (either 8956618 or 3956618)

The Number behind the alt. on the passanger side front is K08 0(could be 6) 60NU (K08060NU or K08660NU)

I was told that is was a 327 out of a vette, unknown what year. I had it bored to a 333 and built up from there.

Re: Decoding motor again...PLZ

3956618 = 1968-1969 4" bore block

327 4 bolt A and F body and Vette
302 290hp 4 bolt Z28
327 235hp 2 bolt A body cars
350 250hp 2/4 bolt any body style

K08060NU
K = St. Catherines, Ontario
08 = August
06 = Day
ONU = Unknown suffix code. Recheck these as they will say if this is a real 327 vette engine or just another 4" bore block.

Re: Decoding motor again...PLZ

CNU comes out to a 1970 350 engine that originally had a powerglide behind it. Rated at 250hp, 2 bolt and came in A body cars.

Possible but that casting wasn't supposed to be used in 1970.

Re: Decoding motor again...PLZ

After doing a quick search through suffix codes, CNU looks like the best choice except the year doesn't match the casting number. I also don't see a suffix code for a 327 in a 68-69 vette.

Re: Decoding motor again...PLZ

Casting number still only says that it's a 68-69 4" bore block. 302, 327 and 350 all use the same bore.

I still can't find the suffic code ONU. CNU would be a more common code since the majority of cars start with C and truck block start with T. There's a handful of other codes but there's only 2 suffix codes that start with O and they were in 1978. One for a 305 and the other for a 350 both in a Firebird.

Trying other posibilities, there are no CNx codes at all for a 327.

Since you've rebuilt it, it must have been a 327 or at least has a 327 crank in it but the block wasn't from a 68-69 vette.

Re: Decoding motor again...PLZ

there is no possiblity of it comeing from a later vette (69+)???

I am 95% sure it says K0806CNU and 3956618 (pic)

found of some site:
CNU 1970 350ci 250hp 2 Powerglide trans.

Re: Decoding motor again...PLZ

Could the numbers on the pad be #### "M" U where the # before the "M" is a zero?

If so, "MU" is a '67 and '68 Camaro 350 number OR "ML" which is a '67 Camaro 327 number, both of which should fit the casting number on the back.

My info (very old Chilton books from the early 1970s) also says CNU is a 1970 250-horse 350 (with powerglide) from a big Chevy.
