Compression Check ?

The shop ran a compression check and all was well. The pass. side was 130/115/130/130 and driver's side was 160/165/160/160. He said that the reason the sides were off was because as you work your way to the other side, fuel is seeping into the cylinders effecting comression. We think the 115 cylinder has the valves adjusted a little tight.

As for the water in the oil, a leakdown was done overnight and it doesn't leak. So, we are assuming that when I changed the heads in the car, some anti-freeze got down into the crankcase, then began to evaporate when I ran the engine, hence it being in the top of the engine only.

Anyhow, have you guys heard of that comression check trend? Thanks

Re: Compression Check ?

No I haven't. Never had one side that far off from the other unless there was a problem.

Re: Compression Check ?

i would be looking at the low compression on that one side sounds like you have a bad head gasket. what you should try is presurise the cylinders 1 at a time with both valves closed and see where the air is going past the valves or into the oil pan or the coolant its called a leakdown test when you know where the compressed air is going repost and i will tell you where the problem is

Re: Compression Check ?

That sounds like way too much of spread to me. I just had one of my 327's tested and the range was only from 85-100 across seven of the 8 cylinders. (One was @60, and a leakdown came back showing 95% leakage so a new crate motor is going in as we speak.)

Re: Compression Check ?

Upong checking the exhuast temps, they ranged from 140-350*, they should all be around 220 or so. This says that I must ahve the rockers adjusted incorrectly. They are going to take care of it next week.....

Re: Compression Check ?

i looked at your pics you have a head problem no question
i build engins for a living and am a licenced tech its not a lifter
problem there is way to much coolant in the oil in the pics to be from just changin heads or intake if that were the case you would have washed all your bearing and would have low oil pressure

Re: Compression Check ?

so what do you think?

foam is nearly gone now.......I am confident with a 100 miles or so, it will be 100% gone, but still tracking the miss

What do you think of the exhuast temps?

Re: Compression Check ?

If I adjusted the rr's a little to tight on that side, then it would affect the compression since the valves may not be seating all the way down...........I am confident with them PROPERLY adjusted, then all will be well.
