Talking Classic 1/4, pics, sounds...POST!

Hey guys not sure if this has been done or not....but i'm really thinking about getting a 68 or 69 camaro...or a newer LS1 Trans am.

I just thought this would be a good way for me, and everyone else on the board to check out some of the older rides, and to learn a little more about them...everyone knows what the new cars can do. Maybe everyone could supply whatever info they can about their cars, be it 1/4 mile times and their setups, or pictures, sounds, and movies!

I just think this would be really cool, and it might persuade me and others to get there own piece of muscle car history, rather than suffering through payments, smog, high insurance and all that good stuff that comes along with newer cars! lets try it out, can't wait to see some replies full of cool stuff! thanks in advance for those that want to particapate!

what does this mean? do you mean an LS1 in a 67 or 68 camaro? yea its been done i'm sure.

man, to answer this post you would need 100+ pages... at least. you are asking for so much info. honestly, all the stuff you want to know is on the net and a large chunk of it is probably already on this message board. keep reading the forum and your answers with come.

i think what you are proposing is great. many of us believe the same. take and old car and make it a sweet daily driver (or racer). just need to do a lot of homework before you dig in and get in over your head.

Hey thanks for the reply....well what i meant was, i wanted to see everyone on this part of the board, all the classics, post about their cars. Setups, 1/4 times with those setups...maybe some cool pics, and maybe even some videos.

All of this can easily be seen when it comes to newer F-bodies...but to see videos, and check out what the older cars can do is just awesome. It's kind of like when you're out on the road, you see a nice 4th gen drive by, and you say sweet or something to that effect Then out of nowhere a 69 Z drives by and you break your neck to look at it...because it's just not seen everyday! know what i mean?

Even if your replies are brief, anything about your cars would be interesting to me, and others i'm sure...we'll see what happens i guess! later guys

No pics or anything b/c this is a friends car, but he was running a 400cubic inch motor and turbo 400 trans in his 69 camaro. Ran 12's in the 1/4 right off the street.
It's currently being tubbed and redone. Should run 9's or 10's by the time he's done.

Well, if you're not a mechanic and have no desire to become a mechanic, I wouldn't recommend you get a first gen. Those old cars aren't quite as reliable as, for example, a newer LS1 Trans AM. Sure, they look great, but they become a hobby sooner than you think. Now, if you're looking to gearhead down every weekend, first gen all the way!

Right now, my '67 SS is sitting in the garage. It needs a new clutch, some clutch linkage parts, and while I have the transmission dropped, I'm going to take it out and to the shop to have it rebuilt. In the mean time, I'll be driving around my '96 with 150k+ miles on it. Get what I'm saying?

DITTO! I've only had my car for 9 months and I've dropped plenty of cash and lots of mechanic time on it. Get a First Gen...and get grease under the nails. It's difficult to have one without the other!!

Davidhm, gotta love it though! I swear, when my car is actually working I feel like I'm missing something on the weekends. There's just something about getting up at 10am on a Saturday, tossing on the Dickies, and having at something that's ultimately going you have you cursing out loud for a solid 2 hours, isn't there?

Oh, definitely! I enjoy every bit of it. Nothing like working on the car all Saturday morning/afternoon, then getting in it later and taking pride in the work you just completed.

Now, if Mother Nature would only make up her mind and get some warm weather up here! This last blast of snow sucks!

Davidhm,

i paid a little over 10k for my clone Z a couple years ago. it had a mild 350 in it. i have since put over 10k in the motor and trans. overall all, you can pick up a decent 69 for around 10k if you are willing to travel to get it and have cash. wont' be a "show winner", but should be a good eye catcher if you find that good deal. there out there. gotta search EVERYDAY till that one comes along and then you have to JUMP on it quick. thats my advice.

that will get you a good body and undercarrage with a "stock" motor. any race mods and the car will cost ya more obviously.
