chevelle header ?

i have a 1964 chevelle with a 283 v8. later on this year i am swapping in a LT1 stroker motor(carbed) and i was wondering if whatever headers i buy now, will work with the LT1 too, or if i have to buy headers for a LT1 car. thanks,dj

You need to use headers designed for the Chevelle with a small block. I just put some Hooker headers on my 68 Camaro with a 94 LT1 in it. I had to deal with the factory AC stuff so that made it a bigger pain. The difference I noticed was that the LT1 exhaust ports are bigger than the old small block so I ended up grinding out some material in the header flange to gasket match the header ports to the head. Otherwise you'll need some custom headers built with the LT1 flange and the Chevelle small block tubes.

Buddy of mine with a 72 Chevelle that has a small block (non-LT-1) put a set of Hooker Super Comps on it with 1/3/4" primaries. It's a tight squeeze and the oil dipstick on the driver's side of the block had to be "massaged" but they fit just fine and the large primary diameter will cover up and seal ANY stock exhaust port, including the LT-1's d-port exhaust opening.

My 68 Camaro has a 94 fuel injected LT1. I'm still trying to get all the little things ironed out with it. Most of the work was done before I bought the car, but there turned out to be a lot of little issues.
