carb selection help

Im using trickflow heads and cam package. They suggest using a air gap intake and a holley 750 dp, but those carbs are 400 dollars.Ive been looking at a few others the road demon and road demon jr 725's they are between 300 and 340 dollars the holley 4160 750 for around 250-270 depending on choke type or the edelbrock performer 750 they are 245 and 280 depending on choke type. Can somone reccomend me a carb thats cheaper than the holley dp thats a good either from these that ive looked at or another or should i just spend the extra for the dp.And what are the advantages disadvantages af an electric choke.

thanks in advance

+1

Don't buy a used or rebuilt carb, they suck. I have a cheapo rebuilt Edelbrock Performer on my 350, it blows.

FWIW - I have the GM 350HO/330HP crate motor with the RPM Air Gap and I'm running a Holley 700cfm DP (PN 4778) with an electric choke add-on. Its a daily driver, runs like a clock and I've had zero problems with it since August when the motor went in.

Re: carb selection help

If you know what your doing any carb can be revived and tuned to perform well as long as it isnt cracked or broke! I go to a HP shop here in town buy carbs hes replaced and re-build'em myself and they run great, the best carb to buy in my opinion is one from someone who dosen't know what they are doing and have "tuned" or "rebuilt" themselves and you give'em $50 for a $400
carb, tear it apart set it up correctly and you've got a good cheap carb! I would never buy new too many used ones for cheap

I dont think there is any such thing as a junk carb just a carb that isn't adjusted properly youll never have max performance if you stick a box stock carb on a modified motor.

I'd suggest Holley's Street Avenger series. If you think you can handle the way they are made then go for it. They are just trickey to work on.

Darn. I suggest a Quick Fuel Technologies Dominator. I had mine custom built for my setup. Mine is a drag setup but you can order one for your application. Why would you go cheap on the carb? Would you put a cheap cam in your motor just to save $. You build a motor once. Do it right. No regrets. ***** to the wall.

Re: carb selection help

The holley HP series is nice thats what im using. My opinion is not to use the edelbrock, stay with a holley.
